Seating Device
Collection
Role:
Designer, Maker
Exploring the ideas of topical consumer culture, waste justice and anti-ergonomics, here is an archive of seating devices that were put together with abandoned, discarded or preloved objects.
INSPIRATION
When I moved to New York City, one of my first culture-shocks came from seeing the amount of perfectly usable items that people abandoned on the streets.
Although it pained me, I also found excitement in this free catalogue of resources. I saw an opportunity in these piles of rubbish and challenged myself, and my collaborator, to make one free chair every fortnight and give it away to friends and family.

PROCESS
Serendipity is my biggest friend. The process strictly depends on finding inspiration before creating. Long walks around city blocks are the starting point. Then I move on to sketching, and depending on logistics, I move on to physical making.
If they are too heavy or dirty to carry home, then we just sketch the ideas.

ITERATION
Here's a brief look at what was done with ‘7 blue crates’ I stumbled upon during one of my walks. It was a valuable ideation exercise.
